South Australian Masters Athletics has again been invited by the South Australian Athletic League to stage a distance handicapped 800m as part of the Bay Sheffield Carnival at the ACH Group Stadium (Glenelg Oval), which runs from 27-28 December 2021.
The SA Masters 800m event is currently scheduled to be held on Monday 27 December at 4.30pm.
The SAMA event is coordinated and distance-handicapped by Lisa Attenborough, with the assistance of Sarah Chinner.
There is no cost of entry, which is by invitation only. Participation is restricted to financial members of SA Masters Athletics.
Candidates must have taken part in at least one (preferably more) of the Bay Sheffield Qualifier races held by SAMA as part of our normal track program in the first part of the 2021-22 summer season. Everyone who competes in the qualifier races will be considered for the SA Masters 800m event, and will be contacted by email after the final qualifier on 24 November to confirm their participation.
More about the event
This is a very exciting distance-handicapped event with the names of all athletes being broadcast in front of an enthusiastic crowd. It is a privilege for SA Masters Athletes to have been involved in this event for many years now, and it is vital that we put on an exciting, highly competitive race to remain so into the future. This is a rare opportunity for SA Masters Athletics to publicly showcase its provision for masters athletes.
Thus it is essential that SAMA gets the handicapping correct, and this is based on the Bay Sheffield Qualifier races held by SAMA as part of our normal track program in the first part of the 2021-22 summer season. In 2021 these qualifiers occur on the following dates:
- 20 October – 800m qualifier
- 27 October – 400m or 1000m qualifier
- 10 November – 800m qualifier
- 24 November – 800m qualifier (in conjunction with the 1500m)
Full information about the Bay Sheffield Carnival can be found at http://www.baysheffield.org.au/, and a full program will be available at the SAAL Team App website.
