SUMMARY:Bay Sheffield Carnival - Exurbia SA Masters 800m Event
DESCRIPTION:South Australian Masters Athletics has again been invited by the South Australian Athletic League to stage a distance handicapped 800m on Sunday 27 December 2026 as part of the Bay Sheffield Carnival at Colley Reserve\, Glenelg\, which runs from 27-28 December 2026. \nThe Exurbia SA Masters 800m handicap race will feature on the Sunday\, most likely in the evening (tbc). The presentations will follow the race. \nFellow members\, family and friends are encouraged to come and watch and to cheer on the runners\, and to mix and mingle with the stars of the track before and after the race. Look for the colourful SAMA marquee. \nThis SAMA event is coordinated and handicapped by Viddy Jermacans\, and this year will be distance-handicapped based on results leading up to the event (there will not be any ‘qualifying races’). \nParticipation is restricted to financial Full-competing members of SA Masters Athletics. There will be no entry fee. Racing colours will be provided to runners prior to the race. It is suggested that runners wear their SAMA singlets also. \nThe SAMA event at the Bay Sheffield is sponsored by Exurbia\, which provides all Prize vouchers including those for the first three placegetters.SAAL will also provide a sash for the winner. \nMore about the the Exurbia SA Masters 800m Event \nThis is a very exciting distance-handicapped event with the names of all athletes being broadcast in front of an enthusiastic crowd. It is a privilege for SA Masters Athletes to have been involved in this event for many years now\, and it is vital that we put on an exciting\, highly competitive race to remain so into the future. Whether you’re chasing a podium finish\, a personal best\, or simply the thrill of competition\, now is the time to start preparing. \nRegistrations open later in 2026 with all the details you need to secure your place at this premier event published right here. Keep training\, mark your calendar\, and make sure you check back soon so you don’t miss out. \nPerth 2027 is coming – are you ready? \nAn indicative programme is available at Perth 2027 | Event Programme \nFor further information keep an eye on the Championships website at https://perth2027.com.au/ \nA MESSAGE FOR ALL POLE VAULTERS  \nRegretably\, we must inform all registered masters athletes that the Pole Vault event will unfortunately not be available at the 2027 AMA National Track & Field Championships in Perth. \nThere are many logistical and safety reasons why this event cannot be held and we apologise\, but the safety of the athletes\, officials and volunteers has to be paramount. \nWe will instead hold a ‘Postal’ Pole Vault – information will be sent out to all state and territory associations and information will be available on the AMA website. \nThe dates for the Postal event will be between February 1\, 2027 and April 18\, 2027. Athletes can enter via the AMA website on the EML Sports portal once it is set up. \nNo entry fee\, but we will only be accepting one result per athlete. \nIn the time available\, an athlete can compete as often as they like\, but the final result will be what you send through first. The event must be run as an individual event (not as part of a combined event Decathlon) under standard WA and WMA rules and results must be available on the appropriate website. \nThe medal winners for each age group will be announced and awarded at the nationals in Perth. \nEnquiries regarding the postal event can be sent to: jaynehardy@australianmastersathletics.org.au
