Well done everybody who participated and helped organise the events on the 28th Dec at Glenelg. From conversations with those who were there, all had an enjoyable time and as usual it is a very well organised event by SAAL. It was also a great promotion for our club. Next year we want to see more SAMA colours under the SAAL singlets - maybe even a SAMA tent. Now that we understand how the process works, we should be able to organise a bigger and better event next year if the SAAL will have us again. I had many more enquiries than I could handle in the 120m event so it was arranged on a first in basis. Next year I think we should try for a front marker and back marker 120m event because heats and then finals would not be viable if there are only 2 heats. I doubt whether we could fill more than that. I don't have the times for the 120m but the time was around 13.5 secs. The winning order was Peter Wade (22.75), Ross Hill-Brown(11.75), Steve Smith(15.75), Geoff Corbett(4.25), Geoff Whitehall(11.75), Stephen Hibbitt(Scr), Chris Johns(7.00). The 800m went quite well even though we had 23 entries (which we have to pay for) and only 15 in the event. I know that half of those who pulled out were injured. There will always be a significant drop out when the entries have to be finalised a month or so before the event. Thanks to Paul Boyce for doing the handicapping. Paul calculated the distances based on times provided. He did not have the luxury of the SAAL where previous marks can be used (rather than times). The two winners were well in front but were deserved winners because they produced exceptional performance on the day compared with past performances. My son video'd the races, but the poor quality video and the subjects he concentrated on did not give us accurate times. The 800m event times off the video are attached, but because the video did not view the winner's finish, the finish time is a bit rubbery. The times should be read as indicative only. If we can get results from SAAL I will forward on.
